Back From Barcelona
Wearever just spent a few days in Barcelona, the capital of the Catalonian region of Spain, for a conference. In between meetings and dinners, did some touring and had a taste of Barcelona and its historical culture. Barcelona's history goes back farther than Madrid's, and its streets are a mix of Gothic and medieval buildings. The Barri Gotic, or Gothic Quarter, is an entire neighborhood worth exploring with some parts dating back to the Middle Ages.
The weather was super for walking, especially along Las Ramblas, a pleasant promenade alongside the harbor, slightly reminiscent of Miami. For a panoramic view of the harbor, ride to the top of the Columbus Monument. World-class museums, such as the Picasso and Miro (and Dali's is nearby along the Costa Brava), and a vibrant night life while sipping local wines, such as Priorats and Riojas, make spending a few days in Barcelona a real delight.
